Portfolio: Wynnstay Hotel and Restaurant, Machynlleth

I built a WordPress website for the Wynnstay Hotel and Restaurant in Machynlleth for its previous owners, several years ago. They eventually had the website rebuilt by a different supplier, and then a few years later sold the business to my old friends Gail and Huw, who decided the other supplier’s website wasn’t right for them and asked me if I’d rebuild again. Of course, I said yes!

The version of the Wynnstay’s website that I built for Gail and Huw is much more coherent, with stronger photography and completely updated copy to replace the rather pompous-sounding text the previous owners had published. While Gail and Huw provided a rough correction of the old copy, and an idea of how they’d prefer it to read, they left it to me to completely rewrite the text in a way that would better engage visitors and search engines.

A meeting with Gail and the hotel’s manager, Jes, to brainstorm ideas for design, layout and functionality resulted in a bold colour scheme, eye-catching photography, an intuitive information flow, a cull of pompous and dated copy, and a better means of promoting events and special offers.

The website continues to evolve with the owners’ needs, and will eventually be completely bilingual
